Ads to flood social networks

19.11.2009 | Weekly.UA

The sarafannoeradio.org laboratory compiled the first rating of the country’s social networks. The Connect.ua with more than 700,000 subscribers (1.5% of Ukrainian population) took a firm lead. Second place goes to Profeo with nearly 300,000 Ukrainian users in search of business and private contacts to build a successful career. Third place belongs to rybalka.com, where fishermen and hunters exchange their experiences and GPS maps.
“Although social networks are massive resources for advertising, many ads fly past their owners, says Director of Connect.ua Serhiy Korkin. “Today, social networks in the CIS suffer from the invasion of spammers, which repeats the woes of their western analogues. This is a very effective method of spreading unsanctioned advertising. The expenses are minimal. Spammers need only register in and thousands of viewers are guaranteed to see their ads within a few hours,” Korkin assures.
“Naturally, the owners of social networks will not stay indifferent as to how their networks are used but will try to earn themselves,” says Vice President of The Willard Group Maksym Rylskiy, “One can expect that registration fee and paid ads will soon be introduced in the most popular networks and blogs.”
